Given the birthdate in 1861, the I. Whitney in Toledo COULD be your Ira, but just as likely the Sallie Whitney (probably widow) who is head of a household in Franklin in Warren County could have a son of 19 years who would also be your Ira. I also see that Ira's possible father, Elmer, was supposedly married to a woman named Sallie. The only way to tell is to get the census microfilm and look. I'd try the Butler County one first, and see if Sallie Whitney doesn't have a son named Ira in the household. You didn't say where you live, did you? If there is a decent sized city nearby (or you live in one), the reference librarian at your local public library may have census microfilm, or can order it for you on interlibrary loan. If no decent public library is nearby, how about a small college or a university? OTOH, if the one in Toledo is your Ira, off on his own, I see he died in Toledo. That suggests the possibility that he lived there all his life. I'd look at the 1880 for Toledo and see how old that I. Whitney is. If he is the proper age, then you can look at the 1900 and 1910 census microfilm to see what his family looked like when he was age 39 and 49. That ought to cover his children, and you could determine from his known descent if this is the right man. Then I would go back to Franklin (Warren County) and look at the 1870 census for a household with an Elmer or a Sallie as head, and see if you can find an Ira as a child of 9.
