Glad to meet you, cousin! A few of us have copies of Henry Melville's book, _The Ancestry of John Whitney_ (1896). We are in the process of transcribing some parts which will be posted on the WRG web site when ready. Melville does a good job of documentation for the data he presents. For a discussion of the ancestry of John-1 WHITNEY of Watertown, see this URL: <http://www.whitneygen.org/families/johnw/ancestry.html>. The discussion there will explain why most of the information in Melville's book, describing the WHITNEY family of Whitney-on-Wye, Herefordshire, cannot be proved to apply to our John-1 WHITNEY. The parents of Thomas WHITNEY of Westminster, father of our John-1, are currently unknown, but his father could not be Robert WHITNEY, 3rd son of Sir Robert and Sybil (BASKERVILLE) WHITNEY of Whitney, as stated by Melville.
