Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2008 09:06:36 -0600 References: <[email protected]> In-Reply-To: <[email protected]> Allan, I sent the following to you privately before I had read all of the postings. After reading this posting, I decided I had best post this for the WRG since it's obvious we are talking about the same family. My 3rd great-grandfather, Palmer, was a half-brother of Samuel Whitney. Jon Whitney Hi Allan, This is off the subject of what county a town is in, but you mentioned, in particular or in coincidental passing, Lima, New York. This is one of my major road blocks. My 4th great-grandfather Joseph Whitney is supposed to have died there as did his wife. She reportedly died sometime after 1784. I have some documentation that leads me to believe Joseph died about 1803. That is from a document that show his son going there for a period of time from Gilsum, NH, and then returning to Gilsum in that time frame. Our guess is that he went because his father died "killed by a falling tree" and he went to take care of the estate. My question is, do you have a Whitney connection in Lima, NY? I have been unable to trace Joseph Whitney or his wife Anna in that area. A cousin and I spent some time there, but were told there were no records extant of that period. We even went so far as to walk the cemeteries and did find a couple of Whitneys, but apparently no immediate connection to us. I am simply wondering if you have any information regarding Joseph and Anna (Palmer?) Whitney who reportedly died in Lima, NY, after moving there from Warwick, MA? Thank you for taking the time to read this. Hopefully, there is some "happy hunting" out of all of this.
