My Whitney Line

Edit My Whitney Line

I'm quite confident that I am a 12th generation descendent of Henry Whitney, who immigrated to what was then the British Colonies from England during the mid 1600s.

I'm very excited to make this connection, as I have been bemoaning the lack of record and shared history in my family. I have known for a while that I have French (Huguenot), Scottish, Portuguese, English and Romanian roots, but it is very exciting to have some concrete names and places.

It is interesting that nine generations of Protestantism ended when my grandfather (Frank) married a Catholic woman and converted. I grew up Catholic and was surprised to find such a strong Protestant tradition. Also, I have to say I am a bit sad to find out my relatives were Loyalists, but I suppose it is to be expected, being Canadian and all. :)

This Henry chap seems to have been quite a mover and shaker, to say the least. I wonder if it is fair to suppose that he was fairly established in England, with experience with mills before he made the journey to the colonies.

It is interesting to see some common traits reflected in the generation of today: love of words, talents of working with one's hands, eccentricity! :)
