He married, about Dec 1821, prob. Hector Township, Tompkins Co., NY, '''Mary Carman''', daughter of Isaac and Charity (Underhill) Carman.  She was born about Mar 1803, Clinton, Dutchess Co., NY, and died 15 Jul 1866, Norwich Twp, Oxford Co., ON, Canada. The records of Hector, NY have been lost, making documentation of the marriage difficult.

She married secondly, 5 Jan 1830, Norwich, Oxford Co., ON, Canada, Caleb Tompkins, Jr., the son of Caleb and Sarah Ann (Bush) Tompkins.  He was born about 1806, Dutchess Co., NY, and probably died after 1880 in Marion, Linn Co., IA.  Mary is buried in the Brick Fiends Cemetery in Norwich, ON.

Mary Carman, b. in Clinton, NY, first moved with her parents and siblings to Stanford, Dutchess Co., NY in 1816, and then in the fall of 1819 they removed to Scipio, Cayuga Co., NY, where they signed in with the Friends. Her parents were birth right members of the Society of Friends (Quakers). After a few months, they removed to Hector Twp, Tompkins Co., NY (Schuyler Co., today), where they became members. The records of Hector were lost, perhaps as early as 1870.

Mary signed in with the Society of Friends at Farmington, Ontario Co., NY in May of 1823 as the wife of Crosby Whitney, although he is not a Friend. Mary has married out of the Society, but is not yet disowned. Son George, whose birth is not recorded with the Friends, had been born in 1822. In 1823 the family removed to St. Mary, Ontario, Canada, where daughter Lydia was born in 1824. Crosby was to work on the roads and the town in trade for 100 acres of land, which his son George said was fit only to grow wild buckwheat. They removed in February 1825 to Norwich, Oxford Co., Ontario, Canada, where they signed in with the Friends. 

Crosby Whitney’s death at age 25,on 15 March 1828, after an illness of four days, was reported in the death notices of the 5 April 1828 edition of the Gore Gazette, Ancaster, Ontario, Canada. His widow, Mary, then remarried to Caleb Tompkins about 1830, and she was disowned by the Society of Friends. By the end of 1836, she and her family are removed to Ridott Twp, Stephenson Co., Illinois, where Caleb Tompkins is an early pioneer (found in the Early History of Stephenson Co., IL, and in Foot Prints in the Sands).
