== Notes ==

Lester/Leicester F. Whitney, b. ca. 1848, VT, would seem to be a grandson, not a son, of David.  Possibly his mother was David's daughter Susan.  Alternatively, he could be an adopted child.  His marriage record does call him son of David, as does his death certificate.  The fact that his household was adjacent to that of [[Family:Whitney, Albert (1840-a1880)|Albert Whitney]] suggests that he may have been Albert's brother, and son of [[Family:Whitney, George (1812-1865)|George and Arethusa (Gates) Whitney]].  This latter theory is shown at [https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LC6P-8QX the Family Tree] at FamilySearch.org.  If so, George, who had an earlier son Leicester Whitney, who died as an infant, would have named a second son born two years later after him.
