That record does look promising but I believe she is living in Hollis, York, Maine in 1860 with her daughter. I also think her daughter is working for a family in Buxton, York, Maine in 1870 as Lizzie J. Whitney but I haven't linked the census record as I'm not 100% sure. Thanks for looking further for records of Eliza. I would love to know the fate of these two!

Hard to say what happened with this family.  In 1855 Eliza and Elizabeth are living as paupers in Acton.  I have assumed that Jonathan left them (can't find him in the 1855 census) and then changed his name to Joseph before remarrying, effectively making him a bigamist. Then she moved back to her home county in Maine. I've never looked for divorce records and wouldn't know where to start, really.

That record does look promising but I believe she is living in Hollis, York, Maine in 1860 with her daughter. I also think her daughter is working for a family in Buxton, York, Maine in 1870 as Lizzie J. Whitney but I haven't linked the census record as I'm not 100% sure. Thanks for looking further for records of Eliza. I would love to know the fate of these two!
