Wyoming was partly acquired at the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, partly from the disputed "Oregon Country" in 1846, and partly from Mexico in 1848. At various times parts of its land belonged to the Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Dakota, Nebraska and Utah Territories. When formed, it was created out of the Dakota, Utah, and Idaho Territories. It became a territory in 1869, and a state in 1890.
