I am the owner of Witney Wood, a 25 acre ancient woodland which lies just to the north of Dulas Court, Dulas in the county of Herefordshire. I am interested to know the origins of the name Witney, which I believe is a corruption of the name Whitney. Indeed on the Tithe Map of 1845 it is described as Whitney Wood. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who can throw light on the subject.
