I believe I can trace your ancestry to Henry-1 Whitney of Long Island, NY, and Norwalk, CT.  See the following URL for Emeroy Margaret Whitney and her second husband's children, then follow the links to trace the family backwards:

This source says that the husband of Martha Hart wasn't Thomas Simmons Whitney, but instead Uriah Whitney, so Emeroy's lineage would be:

  Henry-1 Whitney, m.(1) ----- -----

  John-2 Whitney, m. Elizabeth Smith

  Nathan-3 Whitney, m. Sarah Platt

  Uriah-4 Whitney, m.(2) Martha Hart

Samuel Platt-5 Whitney, m. Lois Buttles

  Seth-6 Whitney, m.(1) Mary Batchelder

  Emeroy Margaret-7 Whitney

I will modify your lineage to reflect this information.

Unfortunately, the ancestry of Henry-1 Whitney is unknown.  Eli Whitney, the inventor, was a descendant of a different immigrant, John-1 Whitney of Watertown, MA.  Since no relationship can be proved between Henry-1 Whitney and John-1 Whitney, there is no proved relationship between you and Eli Whitney (at least through the Whitney families--there may be a connection in some other way).  Sorry about that!

Welcome!

Bill,

Welcome to the Whitney Research Group!

I believe I can trace your ancestry to Henry-1 Whitney of Long Island, NY, and Norwalk, CT. See the following URL for Emeroy Margaret Whitney and her second husband's children, then follow the links to trace the family backwards: http://www.whitneygen.org/archives/extracts/phoenix/p1766-1770.html#12778
