I am Larry Farmer. I live in Lansing, Michigan. I have been interested in Genealogy since I was young. My mother's parents were immigrants from Poland; I always wanted to know where my father's family was from. When I asked my grandfather, he just said "We've been here a long time." That was not a lie, as I have traced several lines back to the Great Migration or earlier. The first Farmer in America remains a bit of a mystery. His name was Thomas Farmer, he was born in England, died in 1835 in Bradford, PA, may have been a Revolutionary War veteran, and seems to have had some connection with the Whitneys of Binghamton, NY. His daughter Eunice Jane married John Rodman Whitney, Jr., and his son John Farmer - my 3G Grandfather - married Hannah Whitney.

I can find no records of Thomas Farmer living in Binghamton ... He would have been among the founders of the town, given the birth dates of his children who are reported to have been from there. I can find no service records of this Thomas Farmer in Rev War records. And Hannah, my line's connection to the Whitney's, is of uncertain parentage. So for me, the history of the Broome County, NY area in the early Nineteenth Century seems to hold the answers to a lot of these questions.

Edit My Whitney Line
