Isabella Whitney (ca. 1548-aft. 1573)

She was the first Englishwoman to publish a book of her poetry. She wrote A Sweet Nosegay, a book of poetry, in 1573.


She was daughter of Geoffrey Whitney, and sister of Geoffrey (author of Whitney's Emblems), Brooke, Anne (m. ----- Baron), and two younger sisters. She may have married one ----- Eldershae and had two children, as such a sister is mentioned in the younger Geoffrey's will.
