Josiah3 Whitney (Jonathan2, John1), son of Jonathan2 and Anna (Jones) Whitney,[1] was born 19 May 1663, Watertown, MA,[2] and died 29 Dec 1717, Wrentham, MA, in his 53rd year.[3]

He married firstly, say 1694,[4] Mary -----,[5] parentage and birth unknown. She died 18 Jul 1710, Wrentham, MA.[6]

He married secondly, 3 Nov 1713, Dorchester, MA, Abigail Martin.[7] She was probably the same Abigail Martin, daughter of Richard and Elizabeth (Gay) Martin, who was born 14 Nov 1669, Boston, MA.[8] She died 6 Dec 1734, Wrentham, MA.[9]

On 21 Dec 1702 he was mentioned as a son in the will of his father.[10]

On 4 Feb 1713/4 he was mentioned as a brother in the will of Benjamin3 Whitney of Sherborn.[11]

His inventory was taken on 15 Jan 1717/8.[12]

Children Jonathan, Abigail, Mary, and Josiah were mentioned in the division of his estate.[13]

Children of Josiah3 and Mary (----) Whitney, all born in Wrentham, MA:

i. Mary3 Whitney, b. 5 Mar 1696;[14] living in 1718.
ii. Josiah Whitney, b. 21 Feb 1698;[15] m. Elizabeth Whitney.
iii. Jonathan Whitney, b. 16 Jun 1703;[16] m. Tryphena Daniel.
iv. Abigail Whitney, b. 22 May 1708;[17] m. Preserved Hall.
v. Hannah Whitney, b. 11 Jul 1710;[18] likely the unnamed daughter who d. 24 Apr 1719, Wrentham, MA.[19]
vi. ---ill Whitney, a daughter, name incomplete and birthdate unknown; d. 24 Nov 1711, Wrentham, MA.[20]

Josiah3 and Abigail (Martin) Whitney had no children.
