Lemuel6 Whitney (Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), born Warwick, Massachusetts, Aug 15, 1784; married there 14 Aug 1804, Sally Pratt, born Oxford, Massachusetts, 19 Apr 1783; died Feb 14, 1868, near Foster, Kentucky.

He was born in Warwick, Massachusetts, where he resided for a short time after marriage. He then migrated westward, locating first at Lima, near Genesee Landing, in 1809. He was a soldier in the war of 1812, was at the battle of Queenstown, and was taken prisoner. In 1815 he located at a place in Ohio, where he remained a short time, going then to Charleston, Coles County, Illinois. He finally settled in Foster, Kentucky, where he died. He died 13 Jul 1860; resided Warwick and Oxford, Massachusetts, Lima, New York, Charleston, Illinois, and Foster, Kentucky.

Children of Lemuel6 Whitney:

i. James Foster7 Whitney, born 12 Sep 1808; married Elizabeth S. Morton.
ii. Cynthia Whitney, born 31 Dec 1812; married 30 Jun 1830, Dr. W. Thomas; resided Foster, Kentucky. He was born in Virginia 18 Jun 1826; died Apr. 16, 1859.
Ch.: Foster, born Feb. 21 1831, farmer; resided Dwight, Kansas: Theodore, born 7 Jul 1833; Malinda, born 3 Oct 1837; Clara, born Sept 11, 1840; Sallie, born 12 Jul 1842; Anabell, born 13 Dec 1844; Sophia, born 21 May 1846; Julian. born 14 Oct 1848; Lemuel, born July 5, 1852; all dead but the three boys.
iii. Sophia Whitney, born Oxford, Mall; married in Mechanicsburgh, Ohio, Ludovicus Rudolph. He was born in Baltimore, moved to Mr. Vernon, Indiana, where she died, leaving two small children, Charles and Mary, who died soon after their mother.
iv. Malvina Whitney, born 12 Sep 1806; married Dr. Wilson Dart. He died two years after marriage and she then married Carlos Hilton Gould, of Henniker, NH. They were married in Neville, Ohio, lived there six years then moved to Cincinnati. He was owner of a cotton factory, had two children, son and daughter. The son, Charles W. Gould, was in the Confederate army; after that he went to California, was there six years, then died, Auditor of the Court. The daughter, Mary Dart, died when young.
v. Diana Whitney, born in Massachusetts 1804; died Mechanicsburgh, Ohio, in 1820.
vi. Sallie Whitney, born Lima, New York; died when one week old.
