Capt. Daniel Milo8 Whitney (Samuel7, Samuel6, Joseph5, Timothy4, John3, John2, John1), born Chesterfield, New York, 23 Jul 1815; married 2 Aug 1837, at Keeseville, New York, Emily Reynolds; born at Whitehall, New York, 11 Jun 1813; died at Green Bay, Wisconsin, June 29, Daniel M. Whitney was born in Chesterfield, Essex County, New York, 23 Jul 1813. His early life was passed on a farm at Port Douglass, near Keeseville, New York. When a young man he belonged to the state militia of New York, and was appointed as ensign in the 37th Regiment of Infantry in 1832 by Gov. Enos T. Throop. (His commission signed by the governor his son, Rev. Geo. A., has in his possession.) In 1833 he came west to Green Bay (then Navarino), Wisconsin, and was in the employ of his uncle, Daniel Whitney, one of the early settlers of that place. He continued in his uncle's employ for many years and traveled considerably in his interest. He afterwards entered into mercantile business and later became largely engaged in river navigation. For a number of years he commanded one of the larger bay steamers, The Fannie Fisk, plying between Green Bay and Marinette. For several years he was a large mail contractor between Green Bay and Lake Superior. In 1862 he was appointed postmaster at Green Bay; about the year 1869 he was appointed deputy U.S. marshal, an office which he held until his death, was also sheriff of Brown County. The funeral was the largest ever held in that city. He died 6 Jun 1878; resided Green Bay, Wisconsin.

iv. Myra Ellen Whitney, born 3 Oct 1850 (adopted); married (see) John O. Day, Jr. resided Milwaukee.
