I have found evidence that I think establishes practically beyond doubt that the Ira Whitney who was the son of Daniel Whitney and Phebe Burlingame and who married Lydia Wilcox in and around St. Lawrence/Madrid, New York, is, indeed, the Ira Whitney who came to Ontario with his family in the 1840's.

On the Ontario Death record of their son, Seymore (various spellings) his place of birth is listed as "St. Lawrence Country, New York."

And on the Ontario death record of their daughter Charlotte Whitney, "tailoress", who never married, her parents are listed as "Ira Whitney and Lydia Wilcox."

I think the weight of evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of removing the shadow of doubt that still lingers regarding this connection.
