Josiah⁵ Whitney (Josiah⁴, Josiah³, [prob.] Benjamin², John¹); b. 16 Nov 1764 at Willington, CT; m. Mary Loomis, daughter of Solomon Loomis and Mary Dart, 26 Nov 1783 at East Windsor, CT; d. 29 Oct 1792 at Granville, MA, at age 27.

Mary Loomis was born on 26 Jan 1765 at Bolton, CT. She married Solomon Payne in Nov 1797. She died on 14 Jan 1850 at Rootstown, OH, at age 84. She died on 14 Jan 1859 at Rootsville, OH, at age 93.

Children of Josiah⁵ Whitney and Mary Loomis were as follows:

i. Sarah⁶; b. 4 Jun 1785 at Willington, CT; m. Beeman Chapman 26 Sep 1805 at CT; d. 21 Aug 1846 at Rootstown, OH, at age 61.

ii. Mary; b. 2 Oct 1787 at Willington, CT; baptized 23 Jun 1791 at Granville, MA; m. Nathan Chapman 22 Dec 1806 at Rootstown, OH; d. circa 1880; d. 1885.

iii. Indiana; b. 21 Aug 1789 at Willington, CT; baptized 23 Jun 1791 at Granville, MA; m. Calvin Allen 20 Mar 1811 at MA; d. after 1834.

She was also known as Irdana Whitney.

iv. Josiah; b. 1 May 1791 at East Granville, MA; baptized 23 Jun 1791 at Granville, MA; m. Almira Ellsworth 28 May 1818 at OH; d. 7 Oct 1869 at Rootstown, OH, at age 78.
