Your Whitney Lineage

Welcome to the Whitney Research Group! Thanks for posting your mother's and maternal grandparents' names.
I believe I have been able to trace your and her Whitney lineage for a few generations. I am quite sure the family lived in or near Oneonta, Otsego Co., NY, for many years.
I found them in the censuses of 1930, 1920, 1910, 1900, 1880, 1860, and 1850, and in Franklin, Delaware Co., NY, in 1820. Using the information found on those records, I found a family tree posted on-line for your grandfather's family. The lineage goes like this:
- Joseph Whitney (1795-1871), m. Mary Louise Hunter
- Roswell Whitney (about 1827-after 1880), m. Jerusha Rosebrook
- Frederick Whitney (1852-1919), m. Dora Tomasine Bennett
- William Henry Whitney (1879-1962), m. Alice Lucy Richards
- Elizabeth A. Whitney (LIVING), m. ----- Murdock
Joseph Whitney was born in Massachusetts, but served in the War of 1812 from Vermont. For this service, he received a pension, and after his death, so did his widow. Here is a link to an abstract of their applications: Archive:War of 1812 Pension File, Joseph Whitney (c1795-1871). His parentage is not clear. I have a theory that he might be the same as Joseph6, son of Joshua5 and Dorothy (Knowlton) Whitney, of Belchertown, MA, and Norwich, VT.
