VIII. Joshua Whitney, b. at Patterson, N. Y., 20 Oct. 1815; a farmer; married there, 16 Sept. 1858, Catharine Bell, who was born at Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland, 11 Dec. 1838, dau. of William Alexander and Ellen (McDonald) Bell. They lived in the hamlet of Gayville, or Foggingtown, Southeast (Dykeman's post-office), N. Y., in 1874.

IX. Susan Whitney, b. at Patterson, N. Y., 26 March 1821; a milliner; married at Pawling, N. Y., by Rev. Aaron L. Culver, Methodist, 19 Sept. 1869, as a second wife, George Eastwood, a farmer, of Patterson, born at Pawling, 29 Jan. 1819, son of Elijah and Sally (Turner) Eastwood. They lived at Patterson in 1874. She had no children.

I. William J. Vermilya,1 b. at Roxbury, N. Y., 7 June 1803; a farmer; married at Canandaigua, N. Y., 1 Jan. 1829, Ruth Benson, of Canandaigua, who was born at Marcellus, N. Y., 21 Sept. 1807, dau. of Elkanah2 and Deborah (Wheelock) Benson, who came from the south-east part of Massachusetts. He went, in 1825, to Lodi, N. Y., where he taught school for two years; in 1827, hired mills in Ulysses, N. Y.; in the Spring of 1830, moved to Sugar Hill (now Jersey), N. Y.; went, in the Autumn of 1834, to Farmington, N. Y.; removed, in 1836, to Ruggles, Ohio, and from there, in March 1858, to his present residence, in the town of Clear Creek (Savannah post-office), Ohio. He has filled all township-offices, from the lowest to the highest.

II. Mary Vermilya, b. at Roxbury, N. Y., 1 Feb. 1805; married at York Mills, Whitestown, N. Y., 12 Nov. 1833, Charles Warner, a farmer, born at Canandaigua, N. Y., 22 June 1804, son of Daniel and Susan (Cassort) Warner. They settled in Canandaigua, and still lived there in 1874.

III. Turney Vermilya, b. at Roxbury, N. Y., 4 Jan. 1807; a physician; grad., 12 March 1828, at a Medical College in New York City; began practice in Delhi, N. Y., and there died of consumption, 2 Nov. 1830, unmarried; and was buried in Delhi.
