III. Walter Whitney, b. at Meredith, N. Y., 28 Jan. 1827; a marble-engraver; married at Ogdensburgh, N. Y., 1 Jan. 1850, by Elder Howard, Baptist, to Catharine M. Wilson, who was born in County Longford, Ireland, 4 March 1827, dau. of Andrew and Catharine (Moffatt) Wilson. They lived in Potsdam, N. Y., about one year; in Prescott, C. W., about two years; and settled, 20 Oct. 1854, at Flint, Mich., where they were living in Sept. 1874.

IV. Newton Whitney, b. at Stamford, N. Y., 15 March 1828; a cutter and engraver of marble; married at Potsdam, N. Y., 27 Aug. 1851, by Rev. Mr. Douglass, Universalist, to Jane Eliza McFarling, who was born at Mariatown, near Morrisburg, Canada West, 7 June 1830, and whose parents, Alexander and Jane (Keachie) McFarling, lived near Amsterdam, N. Y., and went to Mariatown soon after the war of 1812. He lived in Potsdam for two years; in Ogdensburgh, N. Y., three years; in Lansing, Mich., sixteen years; and, in 1870, moved to Jackson, Mich., where they were living in Sept. 1874.

V. Angeline Whitney, b. at Stamford, N. Y., 5 Sept. 1830; died at Ogdensburgh, N. Y., 27 Feb. 1846, and was buried there.

VI. Nathan Stilson Whitney, b. at Stamford, N. Y., 13 Jan. 1832; moved to Ogdensburgh, N. Y., with his father, in the Autumn of 1834; went to Pontiac, Mich., 26 Nov. 1853, and to Detroit, Mich., in May 1854; married in the First Baptist Church, Detroit, 3 Sept. 1854, by Rev. Nathaniel Culver, to Mary Ann Chaffee, who was born in Rochester, N. Y., 3 May 1829, dau. of Joel and Melissa (Case) Chaffee. He went to Belvidere, Ill., in Sept. 1854; to Freeport, Ill., in the Spring of 1855; to Cumming City, Nebraska, in 1856; to St. Joseph, Mo., in the Spring of 1858; to St. Louis, Mo., in the Winter of 1858-9; to Alton, Ill., in the Spring of 1859; and, in March 1860, to Edwardsville, Ill., where he was still living in Aug. 1874. He is a carver and engraver of marble, and has attempted sculpture with some success. He is proprietor of the Edwardsville Marble Works.

VII. Lyman Whitney, b. at Stamford, N. Y., 16 March 1833; a marble-cutter; left his father's house in Ogdensburgh, N. Y., 13 Oct. 1854, for Detroit, Mich., where he staid one month; then went to Lansing, Mich., where he dwelt ten years; married, 15 June 1862, at Olive, Mich., by Philander Howe, to Julia Ann Alward, who was born in Norwich, Canada West, 7 Sept. 1842, dau. of Henry and Rhoda (Dennis) Alward. Having left Lansing in 1864, they lived about two months in Freeport, Ill.; one year in Sigourney, Iowa; eight years in Lansing; two months in Alton, Ill.; three years in Edwardsville, Ill.; and three years in Jackson, Michigan. They left Jackson, 24 Ap. 1874, for Reading, Mich., where they were living in Aug. 1874.
