Seventh Generation.
Bronson, of New York, and g. son of Dr. Isaac and Anna (Olcott) Bronson,1 of Greenfield Hill, Conn. He graduated at Williams College in 1856. She died of diphtheria, 22 Aug. 1864, at Baden-Baden, Germany, without children; and was buried in the Whitney chapel, Greenwood Cemetery.
5270 V. Anna Lewis Phoenix, b. at 18 State St., New York, 13 Sept. 1837; died there 19 Sept. 1858, unmarried, and was buried in the Whitney chapel, Greenwood Cemetery.
5271 VI. Stephen Whitney Phoenix, b. at 18 State St., New York, 25 May 1839; graduated at Columbia College, New York, in 1859; A. M., ditto, 1862; L L. B., ditto, 1863. He resided at 22 West 23d St., New York, in 1877, spending the Summer months at his country-seat, "Harbour View," in Newport, R. I.
5272 VII. Lloyd Phoenix, b. at 18 State St., New York, 7 Oct. 1841; graduated at the U. S. Naval Academy in 1861; midshipman 1 June 1861; lieutenant 21 Feb. 1863; and resigned on the conclusion of the war of 1861. He served in the Preble ('58), Plymouth ('59), Constitution ('61), Wabash ('61), Pocahontas ('61-2), Planter ('62), Wabash ('62-3), and Niagara ('63-5). He resided at 22 West 23d St., New York, in 1877.

5273 I. Isaac Lawrence Whitney, b. at New York, 15 Nov. 1835; died 7 Dec. 1835, and is buried in the vault beneath the Whitney chapel, Greenwood Cemetery.

Harriet Whitney, b. in her father's house on Whitney Avenue, New Haven, Conn., 2 March 1838; married there, 5 June 1860, Charles Henry Berryman, born at 539 Broadway, New York, 23 March 1833, son of Edwin Upschur and Maria (Coster) Berryman, and g. son of John Gerard and Catharine Margaret (Holsmann) Coster.2 They resided at 661 Fifth Ave., New York, in Sept. 1877. 13127
5275 III. Cornelia Lawrence Whitney, b. in Whitney Avenue, New Haven, Conn., 27 Nov. 1839; married at 143 Madison Ave., New York, 13130

  2 John Gerard Coster and his brother, Henry A. Coster, were highly respected merchants in New York during tile early part of the present century and the closing years of the last. They were born in Haarlem, Holland. The family came from the Dutch province of North Friesland, and settled in Amsterdam in the early part of the 18th century. see Scoville's Old Merchants of New York City, III, pp. 190-199.
