Dear Hugh
I will not try to tell you
how glad I was to hear you was
married. I have thought about you
so much this cold winter; working
hard with no one to cheer you
when you come in tired or hungry.
The future looks all brightnes to you
now in your warmth of love; but
when the stern realities of life
come we need a more enduring
love to make us overlook each
others faults; for none are perfect
our tastes differ, and well it is
for each one if they early learn
to cultivate a forgiving disposition
and my dear children let this
ever be your motto that the sun
shall never set upon your wrath
in any misunderstanding always
be reconciled to each other ere
you sleep; may you be happy is
the blessing sent from your dear
mother - I wish you could send
me your pictures do so as soon
as possible wont you? We are having
a cold winter so far had good
sleighing 6 weeks; Allice Scott & Alher[?] Fritz
came in last evening to enquire about

Commercial College Rochester he will
not stay on the farm - Mate lives just

I have not sen Fannie since New Year
Free & Eliza came down 2 weeks
ago Sabbath went back the same
day - O how I wish I could

                   Mother
