Ella (Heberlein) Dunkleberg (?) to Hugh Monticello and Mathilda Caroline (Heberlein) Whitney, 13 July 1890.

                             Kill Creek, Kans.
                             July 13- 1890.

     Dear Sister Brother and All-
          I will endeavor to drop
you a few lines this afternoon.
But Oh! how can I say much on
such a sad sad occasion?
Words and pen are too feeble to
express my feelings.
I can not believe it true, I ask
myself the question Is it really true
thousand times a day.
Dear ones how can I write you
words of comfort!
We know this much, she is far better
off than we.
She is free from many a sorrow and
tribulation, and temptation.
God took her while she was pure in his
sight.
What a band of little angels we
have over there! If we only live
so that when our days are numbered
they will all meet us on the
golden strand.
It seems so hard that God seek fit
to take away those little lambs we
love so dearly.
Trust in God for he knoweth best.
Now dear ones do not grieve to
much over your great loss but think
of those that God has left you.
When I think of it, what pleasure
are they here? The sorrow & worry
far exceed them. At least around
here.
How are the children, I hope they are
better! Till when they are well enough
to travel come home and rest up
Ma wants you to come.
She has worried so much, it will
do you all good to get away from the
sad scenes & surroundings.
Baby is getting along nicely, is growing
fatter and cuter every day.
She is lying in the cradle awake now.
We have named her Irma H. (Heberlein)
I gave her the first Jerry the second.
Manny manny thanks for that little cap, she look
so sweet in it.
Well I will not trouble you with
much description of her, when you come
you can see for yourself.
Only I would say she is an awful good
baby expecially nights.
I guess I will close for this time my
heart is too full to write much.
I think Pa is writing you good letter
today.
Is Mrs. Fritz still with you, I believe
she is the nicest ladey I ever met.
Write when you feel like it, if it
is only to say you are all well.
Hoping this will find you in better
health I remain as ever your loving sister Ella.

Now Till do not forget to come, pack
up what you have, do not make preperations
a week beforehand.
