III. James Whitney, b. in Saugerties, N. Y., 1 Oct 1818; a farmer; married there, 20 June 1840, Christina Schoonmaker, dau. of George and Jane (Van Louven) Schoonmaker, of Catskill, N. Y., where she was born 29 Sept. 1817. He was toll-collector at the Jersey City ferry from 1851 to 1874, and lived in Jersey City, N. J. They were dwelling at Catskill in Ap. 1875.
