V. Melinda Downs, b. at Weston, Conn., 14 March 1800; married "in York State", 3 Jan. 1825, Hiram Wood, a hatter, of Brookfield, Conn., who was born there, son of Preserve B. and Eunice (Merwin) Wood. She died in Brookfield, 3 July 1843, and was there buried. He lived at Danbury, Conn., in 1873.

VII. Emeline Downs, b. at Weston (var. Greenfield), Conn., 18 March 1805 (var. 18 Jan. 1805, 18 Oct. 1806); married at Danbury, Conn., 13 July 1828, Orris Baldwin Barber, a farmer, born at Danbury, 29 Oct. 1803, son of Daniel and Rebecca Barber. They settled in Cornwall, Conn., where he died in 1845. She removed to Patterson, N. Y., about 1858; dwelt there for ten years; and then moved to Danbury, where she lived in 1873.

VIII. Catharine Downs, b. at Weston, Conn., 21 March 1808; married by Rev. Hawley Sanford, Methodist, at Reading, Conn., 23 Jan. 1830, to Daniel Andrews, whose first wife was her sister Mariana. They lived in South Britain, Conn., for two and a half years; Bridgeport, Conn., one year; Reading, Conn., one year; Newtown, Conn., three years; Reading again, one year; and afterward in Danbury, Conn., where he died (in Bethel village), 3 Nov. 1839, and was buried in the Congregational churchyard. She moved to Lyon's Plains (Westport post-office), Conn., in March 1872, and lived with her daughter.

IX. Polly Downs, b. at Weston, Conn., 1 Nov. 1812; married by the Episcopal clergyman at Newtown, Conn., 29 May 1841, to Orry Guiles, a maker of combs and buttons, son of Elisha and Diana (Diamond) Guiles, of Nassau, N. Y., where he was born 13 Aug. 1816. They lived in Greenfield, Conn., for one year; in Danbury, Conn., one year; in Newtown, Conn., six years; and then settled at Reading Ridge, Conn., where he died, 10 Jan. 1861. She then lived in Weston, Conn., for three years; and resided at Reading Ridge, a widow, in 1872.
