Plympton was created out of Plymouth in 1707. Part was split off as Halifax in 1734. Territory was gained from Middleborough in 1734. Carver was created from part in 1790. Land was ceded to Halifax in 1831. Its boundaries with Halifax were adjusted in 1863.
