Whitney ancestors are from the John & Elinor lineage I believe.
My grandfather Robert Earl Whitney was born (August 17, 1898) and raised in Mexico, NY. He had one sister Doris, several years younger.
His father was William Whitney born 1857(?) or thereabouts in Watkins Glenn, NY. His wife was Maude (Mowry) Whitney. He was a farmer in Mexico, NY. He had one brother named Glenn Whitney.
Robert Earl Whitney went to college on a wrestling scholarship, married Adeline Francis Shockey b. June 1904, McCarther, Ohio.
They lived in Ohio where my father was born, eventually settling in Dansville, NY and had a prosperous appliance and electronics business with a large factory storefront called "Whitney's." He also owned a portfolio of rental residences in Rochester, NY, until he retired to Miami, FL where he sold real estate.
Had three children, Robert Earl Jr., Barbara, and Virginia Ellen. I am the first and only child of Robert Earl Whitney, Jr. (b. February 1924) and his wife Margaret Anna (Wohlleben) Whitney (b.February 1937.) I was raised by my paternal Whitney grandparents and remember my great grandfather who lived with us in Dansville until his death in 1961 or 1962. He would hold my hand and go for walks in town and his room smelt like sweet cigars.
