Translation
Herefs: Elizabeth Bromwich widow by her attorney against Thomas Chapleyn of Norton in the said county, husbandman, & Richard Whitteney lately of Hursley, husbandman, in a plea of force and arms on her at Sharnysfeld taking trees and underwood worth £40, growing grass etc worth 100s., and other enormities to her damage and against the Peace, etc.

Notes: Norton is probably Norton Canon; Hursley is now Hurstley, and Sharnysfeld is now Sarnesfield

Translation graciously provided by Michael A. Faraday.

This Richard Whitney is perhaps an ancestor of George Whitney (s1675-?), earliest known progenitor of the prominent Whitney family of Calver Hill.
