John Whitney Downs, b. at Elizabethtown, U.C., 21 March 1806; married at Ridgeway, N.Y., 9 May 1834, Maria Louisa Wilkins, born at Montpelier, Vt., 1 Feb. 1816, dau. of Richard and Maria (Emerson) Wilkins. They dwelt at Hamilton, U.C., for six years; then settled at Brantford, U.C., and were living there in Oct. 1876. He dwelt at Gainsborough, U.C., for seven years before marriage.
