III. Joshua Bignal Chaffee, b. at Ellsworth, Conn., 27 March 1834; a farmer; married at her father's house, 23 March 1863, by Rev. C. W. Powell, Methodist, to Betsey Ann Whitney, dau. of William and Hannah Metcalf (St. John) Whitney, of Ellsworth, where she was born 24 June 1844. They settled at Ellsworth, where she was born 24 June 1844. They settled at Ellsworth, and were living ther in Sept. 1876.
She was g. dau. of Benjamin and Abigail (Fancher) Whitney, and of Square and Abigail (Abbott) Fancher; g. g. dau. of Samuel Kellogg and Grace (Fairweather) Whitney, and of Joseph and Polly Fairweather, of Norwalk, Conn; and g. g. g. dau. of Benjamin and Lois (Kellogg) Whitney, of Norwalk, of whose descendants the records were gathered and arranged for this work, under the erroneous impression that he was descended from Henry Whitney, while it now seems more likely that he was a descendant of John and Elinor Whitney,1 of Watertown, Mass.

Abel, Universalist, to Henry Harrison Olmsted, a farmer, son of Elijah and Polly (Smith) Olmsted, of LeRoy, N.Y., formerly of Middlebury, Vt., where he was born 23 Oct. 1813. They dwelt at Pavilion, N.Y., for twenty-eight years; then settled at LeRoy, and were living there in Mary 1877.
