I. Frederick Clark Nichols, b. at Bridgeport, Conn., 30 June 1844; married there, 1 June 1868, Mary Ellen Umberfield, born at New Haven, Conn., 19 Aug. 1838, dau. of Sidney and Sarah (Lindsley) Umberfield. Her parents dying when she was young, she lived from her tenth year in the family of David Perkins Baldwin, of Watertown, Conn., and was known by the name of Baldwin. He was, in 1874, dealer in hats, with his stepfather, composing the firm of Clark & Nichols, 230 Main Street, Bridgeport. He enlisted in Co. C, 22d Reg. of Conn. Volunteers, 18 Sept. 1862; and was mustered out, with the regiment, in July 1863.
