I. Samuel Davenport, b. at Wilton, Conn., 14 Oct. 1847; enlisted in the 4th Reg. of N. J. Light Artillery, 25 Jan. 1864; and served till discharged, 31 May 1865, having shared in several battles, among which was that of Bermuda Hundred. In Sept. 1866, he enlisted in the 7th U. S. Cavalry; was sent to Kansas to fight the Indians; was promoted to be sergeant; and died, 30 July 1867, after an illness of only fourteen hours, and was buried on the plains near Fort Wallace, Kans.
