1971 IV. David Hyde Gay, b. at Walton, N. Y., 13 Aug. 1815; married, 21 Oct. 1839, at Walton, by Rev. Daniel Shepard, of Delhi, N. Y., Episcopal, to Susan Gardiner, dau. of Jetur and Susanna (Johnson) Gardiner, of Walton, where she was born 4 Jan. 1811. 6254
1972 V. Kezia Ann Gay, b. at Walton, N. Y., 22 Ap. 1817; married, 4 Jan. 1843, at Walton, by Rev. Archibald Bassett, Presbyterian, to William Henry Eells,1 of Walton, a hardware-dealer and tin-smith, born at Unadilla, N. Y., 21 May 1816, son of John and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Eells. They settled at Walton, and were living there in May 1877. 6259

1973 I. George Washington Brainerd, b. in New York, 13 May 1812; a wholesale grocer; married, 23 Oct. 1838, in New York, Mary Ann Belden, born at East Haddam, Conn., 9 Dec. 1815, dau. of Horace and Martha (Denison) Belden, of East Haddam. They settled in New York, where she died 26 Ap. 1858, and was buried in the Second Street Cemetery. He married (2d), 12 Dec. 1859, at Brooklyn, N. Y., Martha Noble Clarke; and resided, in 1874, at 113 West 61st Street, New York. 6262
1974 II. Amasa Brainerd, b. in New York, 9 Oct 1814; a manufacturing jeweller; married, 4 Nov. 1835, at New York, Jane Louisa Brown, of Chester, N. J., who was born 13 Nov. 1816, and died in New York, 19 May 1863; married (2d), 11 Feb. 1864, Hannah Maria Brown, widow of Parsons, born 21 Feb. 1821, a cousin of his first wife. He settled in New York, where his place of business was at 9 Maiden Lane, in 1877, while he resided at 214 York Street, Jersey City. 6268
1975 III. Samuel Seymour Brainerd, b. in New York, 11 Ap. 1817; a merchant; married, 19 July 1838, at Skaneateles, N. Y., Pamela Wilbur De Cost, of Skaneateles, born in New Bedford, Mass., 3 Nov. 1815, dau. of Capt. Nash and Betsey (Wilbur?) De Cost.2 He settled in New York City; removed, in April 1849, to St. Louis, Mo.; and, in June 1877, was living there, a jobber in coal-oil lamp goods, oils, and glass-ware, at 12 South Fifth Street. She died, 27 Nov. 1862, at St. Louis, and was buried at Skaneateles. He married (2d), 23 Dec 1863, at Oshkosh, Wis., Josephine Osborn, born 27 Sept. 1839, at Brooklyn, N. Y., dau., or Dr. Samuel 6274

  2 Capt. Nash De Cost was born in New Bedford, Mass., lived in Brooklyn and Poughkeepsie, N. Y., and died in Skaneateles, N. Y., 27 Jan. 1858, aged 75 years. He was long a ship-master in the New York and Liverpool trade, commanding the Euphrates, Cotter, Averick, and later, the favorite packet-ship York, in all of which he not only gave entire satisfaction to owners, but also to those who took passage with him; and he often boasted that he never had occasion to flog a man who sailed with him, in the whole course of his life.
