Benedict,1 of Walton. He enlisted at Walton, 22 Aug. 1862, for three years, in Co. B, 144th Reg., N. Y. S. Volunteers; was wounded in the left arm, in the action at Devaux Neck, 9 Dec. 1864; was sent to hospital at Beaufort, S. C., and thence to David's Island, N. Y., where he was discharged, 28 Ap. 1865, on surgeon's certificate of disability from wounds received in battle; returned to Walton, and was living there, on his farm, in May 1877. He was elected a deacon of the First Congregational Church at Walton, in Oct 1873.

VI. Edwin Hoyt, twin, b. in Walton, N. Y., 20 Jan. 1827; a farmer; married, 19 Jan. 1851, at Walton, by Rev. J. S. Pattengill, Congregational, to Eliza Ann St. John, born in Walton, 19 Jan. 1829, dau. of Cyrus and Lydia (Andrews) St. John, and g. dau. of Peter and Rachel (Jones) St. John. They settled at Walton, where he died, 9 Nov. 1855, and was buried in the Hoyt Cemetery, but afterward removed to Walton Cemetery. She was living at Walton, in May 1877.

VII. William Seymour Hoyt, b. in Walton, N. Y., 5 Ap. 1831; a farmer; married, 23 Dec 1852, in Walton by Rev. J. S. Pattengill, Congregational, to Mary Melinda Churchill, born in Delhi, N. Y., 10 Oct. 1831, dau. of Joseph and Clarissa (Lyon) Churchill. They settled in Walton, where she died, 19 Feb. 1875. He was living there in May 1877.

VIII. Julia Hoyt, b. in Walton, N. Y., 18 Aug. 1834; married, 27 Feb. 1855, at Walton, by Rev. J. S. Pattengill, Congregational, to Stephen Lyon, a waggon-maker, born at Andes, N. Y., 9 Ap. 1825, son of Burr and Melinda Lyon. They dwelt at Osborn Hollow, N. Y.,. till Dec. 1869; and then returned to Walton, where they were living in May 1877.

IX. Whitney Hoyt, b. in Walton, N. Y., 26 Ap. 1841; a farmer; married, 10 Oct 1860, at Walton, by Rev, J. S. Pattengill, Congregational, to Henrietta St. John, born at Walton, 30 sept. 1840, dau. of Cyrus and Lydia (Andrews) St. John. They settled in Walton, where she died, 22 July 1875. He enlisted at Franklin, N. Y., in Co. B, 144th Reg., N. Y. S. Volunteers, 3 Sept. 1864, and was discharged with the Reg., 14 July 1865, having had a share in the actions at Honey Hill, S. C., 6 Dec., Devaux Neck, 9 Dec., and Pocataligo Bridge, 12 Dec. 1864.
