Weed, of Phoenix, N. Y. She was born at Ridgefield, Conn., 3 Aug. 1817; died at Fenner, 16 March 1871; and was buried in Cazenovia. He moved to Nelson, N. Y., with his father, in May 1828; kept a country store, and was postmaster, at Nelson Flats, from r Sept 1829 to 1 Ap. 1834; lived on his farm of 267 acres, in the same place, till 1841; was a grocer in New York City, from May 1842 till Oct 1845; engaged in the manufacture of patent leather, and afterward in the ice trade, at Newark, N. J., for ten years; bought, in 1855, a farm in Cazenovia, on the west side of the lake, where he lived till 9 Nov. 1865, and after that, on a smaller farm, till 1870; moved to Fenner, N. Y., and again kept a country store till 1 Ap. 1873, holding the office of postmaster during the same time; then dwelt at Camden, N. Y., with his daughter, Josephine Emily (Smith) Eldon, till Feb. 1874, and moved with her to Geddes, N. Y., where be was living in Jan. 1875; and returned to Cazenovia, 1 Ap. 1876.
2427 IV. Perry Hazard Smith, b. at North Salem, N. Y., 28 July 1816; a dealer in hoots and shoes, and an operator in coal-mines; went with his father to Nelson, N. Y., in 1828; moved, in Nov. 1834, to New York City, where he became a partner in the firm of Badeau and Smith, importers and wholesale dealers in foreign fruits, at the corner of Barclay and Washington Streets; married. 19 May 1839, at the north-west corner of Norfolk and Grand Streets, New York, by Rev. E. E. Hatfield, Presbyterian, to Mary Ann Fish, dau. of William and Catharine (Chisholm) Fish, of Hindolveston, Norfolk, Eng., where she was born, 1 March 1818. They removed, in May 1839, to the Rock River Valley, Ill., near Beloit, Wis., and bought a farm there, which he cultivated till May 1846, filling also the office of justice of the peace. He then settled in Chicago, Ill., where she died 19 Sept. 1874, and was buried in Rosehill Cemetery. He was living with his children, at 336 West Indiana Street, Chicago, in July 1876. 7240
2428 V. Mary Ann Smith, b. at North Salem, N. Y., 25 Feb. 1823; married, 5 Oct. 1842, at Nelson, N. Y., by John Young, to Chester Smith Bates, an operator in coal- and gold-mines in Missouri and California, son of Rufus and Sally (Marshall) Bates, of Nelson, where he was born 13 March 1820. They dwelt at Cazenovia, N. Y., till 20 March 1867; at Wampsville, N. Y., till 25 May 1876; and then moved to 28 Clarke Street, Saratoga Springs, N. Y., where they were living in July 1876. 7244
2429 VI. Harriet Louisa Smith, b. at North Salem, N. Y., 24 Jan. 1826; married, 30 Dec. 1847, at Nelson, N. Y., Theodore Mead, a physician and surgeon, son of Theodore and Betsey (Clark) Mead, of Shirley, Mass. He was born at Franconia, N. H., 25 Sept 1819; and grad. at Geneva Medical College in 1848. They dwelt at Nelson till 2 July 1851; at Perryville, N. Y. till 18 Aug. 1874; and then moved to Cazenovia, N. Y., where they were living in Sept. 1875. He has been supervisor of his town. 7248
