IX. Clarissa Polly Whitney, b. in Auburn, Ohio, 28 March 1842; a teacher, educated at Oberlin, Ohio; married at the house of her mother, in Burton, Ohio, 28 Aug. 1867, by Rev. Dexter Witter, Presbyterian, to Edwin Roff Guilford, a machinist and miner, who was born in Pittsfield, Mass., son of Willard and ----- (Hayden) Guilford. He lived in Cleveland, Ohio, following his trade, and went from there to California, before their marriage; since which they have lived in Damascus, Cal., where he was engaged in mining, in 1874. They have had no children.

John Bowen Whitney, b. in Auburn, Ohio, 23 Feb. 1844; a farmer; married at Claridon, Ohio, 30 June 1868, Martha Almeda Douglass, who was born at Claridon, 16 May 1844, dau. of Edwin and Elmira (Taylor) Douglass. He lived in Burton, Ohio, from 1847 till 1872; and then moved to Claridon Centre, where they were living in 1874. He was a soldier in the war of 1861, and has held offices in his town.
