of Ellington. She was born at Benson, Vt., 31 March 1835. They were living at Ellington in March 1875.
2717 III. Amanda Gates, b. at Perry, N. Y., 6 Sept; 1819; married at Ellington, N. Y., 6 Feb. 1860, by Rev. John Snyder, Christian, as his second wife, to John Jiris Simpson, a farmer, Son of Peter and Susan (Millspaugh) Simpson, of Norwalk, Ohio, formerly of Aurelius, N. Y., where he was born, 16 May 1808. They settled at Poland, N. Y. and were living there in June 1874. He was then a justice of the peace. 7929
2718 IV. Caroline Dorcas Gates, b. at Perry, N. Y., 25 July 1820; died 7 July 1845.
2719 V. Polly Calista Gates, b. at Perry, N. Y., 2 Oct 1822; a seamstress; was living in Ellington, N. Y., in June 1874, unmarried.
2720 VI. Esther Lucinda Gates, b. at Ellington, N. Y., 16 June 1823; died unmarried, 6 March 1852, at Ellington, and was buried there.
2721 VII. David Hall Gates, b. at Ellington, N. Y., 28 Nov. 1825; a carpenter; married, 15 Sept 1857, Celinda Davis; died at Ellington, 7 Oct 1861, without children; and was buried there.
2722 VIII. Melinda Gates, b. at Ellington, N. Y., 21 Sept. 1827; married there, 10 Feb. 1856, by Rev. O. L. Mead, Methodist Episcopal, to James Felt, a carpenter, of Ellington, who was born there in 1832, son of John and Janet (Stoughton) Felt. They moved, in 1859, to Hecla, Ind.; and, in 1861, settled in Valparaiso, Ind., where she died of consumption, 27 June 1862, and was buried in Valparaiso Cemetery. He married (2d), 25 Sept. 1865, at Hecla, Margaret Elizabeth Cunningham, by whom he had three children. He died at Jefferson, Ind., 13 July 1874, and was buried in Hecla Cemetery. His widow was living at Pierceton, Ind., in March 1875. 7931
2723 IX. Charles Gates, b. at Ellington, N. Y., 7 May 1829; a farmer and dealer in cattle; married, 29 Sept. 1852, at East Randolph, N. Y., by Rev. Augustus Burgess, pastor of the M. E. Church at Ellington, to Eliza Ann Stevens, dau. of Cyrus and Flevaline (Manly) Stevens, of Ellington, formerly of Rutland, Vt., where she was born, 4 Aug. 1834 They dwelt in Ellington till 11 Nov. 1854; in Union, Penn., till 18 Feb. 1857; in Ellington again, till 8 Jan. 1860; in Union Mills, Penn., till 4 March 1868; at Ellington once more, till 8 Feb. 1869; and then moved to Pleasanton, Kansas, where they were living in June 1874.
