I. Sarah Hill, b. in Meredith, N. Y.; married Charles Oliver Bissell, a blacksmith, who died in Harrisville, Wis., 15 Feb.1868, and was buried there; married (2d), Martin Bills; and moved from Harrisville to Kansas, settling near St. Marie's Mission, where she died 30 Oct. 1874, and was buried.

I. Benajah Smith, b. at Northford, Conn., 27 Dec. 1797; a farmer; settled at Northford; married there, in her father's house, 27 Sept. 1821, by Rev. Matthew Noyes, Congregational, to Angeline Linsley, born at Northford, 11 March 1798, dau. of Deacon Munson Linsley. They settled at Northford, where he died, 8 Jan. 1837, and was buried.

II. Eli Smith, b. at Northford, Conn., 13 Sept. 1801; grad. at Yale College, 1821, S. T. D., Williams College, 1850; a clergyman, and for many years a member of the American Mission at Beirut, Syria, where he translated the Bible into Arabic. He married at Norwich, Conn., 21 July 1833, Sarah Lanman Huntington, born at Norwich, 18 June 1802, dau. of Dea. Jabez and Mary (Lanman) Huntington. She had been engaged in missionary work for some years before her marriage; and two months after their union they embarked for Malta, on their way to Syria; and reached Beirut, their field of labor, 28 Jan. 1834. In June 1836, her health having failed, they went to Smyrna, and were wrecked on the way; and six days of exposure so aggravated her illness that recovery was impossible. She was removed to Boojah, a village about five miles from Smyrna, 7 Aug. 1836; and there died, 30 Sept. 1836. She was buried in a quiet place at Boojah, and a suitable monument was erected.1 He married (2d),
