4138 III. Ruggles Nahum Whitney, b. in Newtown, Conn., 6 Ap. 1826: a trader; married at Sandy Hook, in Newtown, 9 June 1848, by Rev. George A. Hubbel, Methodist Episcopal, to Jane Sherman, whose father then lived at Sandy Hook. She was born in Roxbury, Conn., 19 Aug. 1826, dau. of Warren and Catharine (Hamilton) Sherman. They settled in Vermillion, Ohio; and in 1850, moved to Florence, Ohio, where he died 6 Nov. 1865. He was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, in Vermillion. At the time of his death, he was justice of the peace, and town-clerk of Florence. His widow was living at 613 Greene Avenue, Brooklyn, N. Y., in Sept. 1874. 10902
4139 IV. Lewis Becar Whitney, b. in Newtown, Conn., 9 Feb. 1828; died there of dysentery, 6 (town-record says 5) Aug. 1846; and was buried in Newtown Cemetery.
4140 V. Hannah Maria Whitney, b. in Newtown, Conn., 31 July 1832; married at Wakeman, Ohio, 30 March 1856, Leverett Benedict Hill,1 a farmer, son of Dea. Leverett and Esther (Strong) Hill, of Wakeman, where he was born 11 June 1831. Soon after their marriage, they removed, with his mother and her family, to Tabor, Iowa, arriving there 17 May 1856, having made the whole journey of nine hundred miles by waggon, in six weeks. They were still living at Tabor in Feb. 1873; but in July of the same year, were reported at Larkspur, Colorado. 10903

Charles Philo Whitney, b. in Bridgewater, Conn., 23 May 1834; a carpenter and joiner; lived in Wakeman, Ohio, till the Spring of 1857; passed a year in Birmingham, Ohio, leaving there in the Spring or 1858, for Tabor, Iowa, where he staid with short exceptions till 13 Ap. 1860; removed to Colorado, and afterward to California, where he engaged in mining and many other enterprises in various parts of the State ; married at Birmingham, in Florence, Ohio, 30 March 1870, at the house of Cyrus H. Ennes, by Elbert N. Taft, Esq., to Cilinda Elizabeth Ennes, whose father then lived at Birmingham. She was born at Wakeman, Ohio, 13 Sept. 1849, dau. of Moses Dewitt and Charlotte Elizabeth (Van Winkle) Ennis. They lived in Bayfield, Lake Superior; in South Saginaw, Mich.; and, in June 1874; in Coleman Station, Mich. 10909
4142 VII. Frederick Augustus Whitney, b. in Bridgewater, Conn., 23 Jan. 1837; married in Florence, Ohio, 8 Dec. 1860, Fanny Maria Shoff, who was born at Florence, 7 Dec. 1841, dau. of Jacob and Sarah (Hayes) Shoff. They settled at Birmingham, in Florence, and were living there in 1873. 10910
