Jump to navigationJump to searchIn 1840, the province of Canada was formed by the union of the colonies of Upper Canada and Lower Canada. Upper Canada became known as Canada West, and Lower Canada as Canada East. In 1867, Canada West was split into the two provinces of Quebec and Ontario.
