Harwich was formed in 1694 from territory known as Satuckett. In 1772, it gave part to Eastham. In 1803, part was split off as the new town of Brewster. Land was given to Brewster in 1811. An area was gained from Brewster in 1848. Its bounds with Orleans were adjusted in 1862.
