Joseph3 Whitney (Jonathan2, John1), son of Jonathan2 and Lydia (Jones) Whitney,[1] was born 10 Mar 1672/3, Watertown, MA,[2] and died 6 Sep 1754, Pepperell, MA, aged 81 years, of old age.[3]

He married 26 or 27 Mar 1706, Charlestown, MA, Rebecca Burge, "both of Chelmsford,"[4] daughter of John and Tryall (Thayer) Burge.[5] She was born 5 Nov 1683, Chelmsford, MA,[6] and died after 20 May 1726, when her youngest child was born.

On 21 Dec 1702 he was mentioned as a son in the will of his father.[7]

On 4 Feb 1713/4 he was mentioned as a brother in the will of Benjamin3 Whitney of Sherborn.[8]

"In 1740 he resided in Chelmsford; for that year he deeded property in Pepperell to his son Joseph, which for over 100 years remained in the family."[9]

On 16 Sep 1743, he owned land in Chelmsford adjoining that deeded from Sgt. John Robbins to his son Jonas Robbins, "near Great Brook."[10]

No probate records for him have been found.

19.^  Placement of Lydia here is conjectural. She was "of Dunstable" at her marriage, and may have been living with one of her siblings, of which three were living there. She bore the given name of Joseph's mother. Other parentage for her is a real possibility, but this is my best guess.
