I have always been interested in my lineage, and recently, due to a college paper, I've finally begun yhe research. For the Whitney side, this is the information that I have VERIFIED, to be true and accurate. I don't know the proper format, but I thought I'd try to give it a shot.
My Great-Great-Great Grandfather was Truman Whitney (18 Mar 1818 - 3 Dec 1887). He was possibly born in Pennsylvania or New York. His wife was Jane Ransom (4 Jan 1819 - 4 Oct 1852) She was born in Windham, Canterbury, CT. They both are buried in Waits Corners Cemetery in Sherman, Chatauqua, NY. They had three children. Martha J (1842-1842), David G (1844-1845), Mary J (1845 - ????) She married Wallace Wilcox. I can't find her vital info. Charles Emmett (4 Oct 1847 - 31 Aug 1929). Born in New York, Died in Oregon. Charles Emmett is my Great-Great Grandfather. The last of their children, David N (1850-1854). The three children who died young are buried in Waits Corners Cemetery with Truman and Jane. Charles Emmett moved to Delaware County Iowa when he was 20. He married Sarah Mariah Warner in Buchanan County Iowa 25 Oct 1868. They resided in Cherokee County Iowa in the fall of 1876. He bought a farm in April 1877. They stayed there until sometime before 1900, when they moved to Valley Springs, Minehaha, South Dakota. Sometime before 1910 they moved to Salem, Marion, Oregon. They stayed in Salem the rest of their lives. Sarah lived to be 103 years old, and was the oldest resident in Salem when she passed away. They had 12 children - Rosa Bell (1869-1963), Martha Dell (1871-1925), Alice Nell (1872-1969), Mary Estelle (1875-????), Gena Ethel (1878-????), Orrin Emmett(1880-1943), Addie Louell (1882-????), Nina Vell (1885-1955), Edna Aurell (1888-1969), Arlie Otell (1890-1970), Flossie Lozell (1893-1975), and my Great Grandfather, Pleasant Merrill (1895-1977). My Great Grandfather Pleasant Merrill married Mabel Olga Savage (1890-1971). They had two children Mary Edna, born in 1919 and still living, and my Grandfather, Pleasant Merrill Jr. (1921-1993). My grandfather married Lois Lorene Ridinger (1930-2007). They had three children, including my father, all of whom are still living.
This is the information I have on my Whitney's. I would LOVE to find a link to who Truman's father was. According to some information I have on Truman, he was at one time a shoemaker, which I have seen run in several family lineages.
