Welcome!

Brent,

Welcome to the WRG! We're glad to have you as a member. I see that you have already made several changes and created several new pages. I applaud your effort, but there is a policy issue you need to be aware of.

We do not post information about living people. There are several reasons for this, but the chief one is to prevent identity theft. If someone knows your name, date and place of birth, and mother's maiden name, they may be able to pose as you in some situations. There are also privacy issues.

It is possible to make family group pages containing them as children, but with care. For anyone who is living (or born less than 100 years ago and not known to be dead), one should put "Living" in place of the name, and no dates or places pertaining to him/her.

Making a new page with such a person as head of household is a problem, due to the convention we have about the names of pages:

"Family:Surname, Given_Names (birthyear, deathyear)"

is the usual way. In the case of a living person, that would translate to

"Family:Living (?,?)"

At first glance, that would seem to be acceptable, and it could make sense to do that. The problem comes when one has more than one of these people. Then there would be a conflict of page names. The way out of this dilemma that we have chosen is to avoid creating pages for those people.

I hope that this is clear. If you need any kind of assistance, feel free to contact me, and I'll do what I can to help.
