Your Charles M Whitney
Stacy:
I've been looking at your line, and following Charles M. Whitney threough the census records - 1860, 1870, and 1880. I am unable to pinpoint exactly who he is in 1850, though I think this is the key as he should be with his parents that year. I did a search on ancestry.com and found that there were nine men named Charles Whitney who were born in Massachusetts within +/-2 years of 1835 in both the 1850 and 1870 census records. It might take some work, but if we could look at the families of each of these men to match up the 1850 and the 1870 Charles's, we might be left with just one or two remaining men who could be your Charles M. My initial feeling is that he could be the son of James and Emma Whitney of Fitchburg, as their sons James and Charles are not with the family after 1850. This is just a hunch though, and I suspect further digging using the method I described above may shed some light on your lineage.
