Earliest known Whitney ancestor: Jeremiah Whitney, born April 17, 1766. He married a Lydia Cole, born June 7, 1767, daughter of Job and Sarah (Reaves) Cole of North Yarmouth, Maine. Jeremiah and Lydia were married in Turner, Maine in 1790.

| This person's DNA shows that he is a member of Haplogroup R1b1b2. This is a subset of Haplogroup R1b, the most frequent Y-chromosome haplogroup in Europe. Its frequency is highest in Western Europe (and due to European emigration, in North America).
