Results

This person's DNA shows that he is a member of Haplogroup R1a1. This is a subset of Haplogroup R1a. It is common in Europe, Northern Central Asia and India. In Europe the highest frequencies are in Eastern Europe. Today it is found with its highest levels in Poland, Ukraine and Russia, where one out of two men has this haplogroup. Relatively high frequencies are also found in Northern Europe and it is believed to have been spread across Europe by the Indo-Europeans, which accounts for the existence of it in, among other places, the British Isles.

During the last ice age, groups of people are thought to have lived near the tree line in what is now northern Spain, the Middle East, and the Eurasian Steppes. As the ice melted, those populations moved north and distributed their unique haplogroups throughout Europe.

Based upon this information, this person's male line ancestors probably lived in the Eurasian Steppes about 20,000-30,000 years ago.
