James Henry1 Whitney (William) son of William and Elizabeth (Hughes) Whitney, was born 11 Jun 1831, Glossop, Derbyshire, England, and died after 1881, possibly Lawrence, MA, or Cornwall, ON.

He married, 7 Jul 1850, Manchester Cathedral, Manchester, Lancanshire, England, Charlotte Wignall, daughter of William and Phoebe (Wilcockson) Wignall. She was baptized 7 Oct 1832, Manchester, Lancashire, England, and died after 1881.

Charlotte Whitney, 37, and the children Mary, 11, William 9, Liza, 8, and Elizabeth, 5, arrived 31 Oct 1867 in New York on the ship Minnesota, in steerage.[1]

James H. was a dyer. He was naturalized 28 Oct 1878, Salem, MA.

iii. William H. Whitney, b. ca. 1855, Manchester, Lancashire, England; m. Ann Stormey.
iv. Eliza A. Whitney, b. ca. 1859, Manchester, Lancashire, England; m. 18 Apr 1880, Lawrence, MA, John Fearn, b. ca. 1859, England, son of John and Catherine (-----) Fearn.[3]
v. Elizabeth Whitney, b. ca. 1862, England; m. 18 Oct 1880, Lawrence, MA [also Lowell, MA], Thomas R. Whittaker, b. ca. 1859, Pembroke, ME, son of George and Mary A. (-----) Whittaker.[4]
vi. James Henry Whitney, bapt. 3 Feb 1867, Manchester Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England; apparently d. soon; not on ship 31 Oct 1867.

x. Charlotte Whitney, b. 1 May 1877, Lawrence, MA; d. 23 Sep 1877, Lawrence, MA, aged 4 months 23 days, of consumption.[9].
