The deposi[t]ion of Will[ia]m Whitney taken before M^r Christopher Muschampe esquier one of the Barons of the quenes Ma[jes]t[ies] Courte of Eschequer the tenth Day of December in the xxj^th yere of the reigne of our soveraigne lady Elizab[eth] ____ as ffollowith

[1 William W]hitney of Whytney in the County of Hereff[ordshire] gentilman of the age of xxvj^to yeres [obscured] sworne and examyned the day and yere above said. To the first Interrogatory he deposeth and saith that he doth not knowe Marmaduke Spight marchant named in this Interr[ogatory], nor did ever see him to his remembrans.

2 Item to the second Interrogatory he saith that he nor any other for him or in his name did berowe (to his knowlege) of the said Marmaduke Spight the some of CC^li mencyoned in in this Interr[ogatory], but further saithe that he himself delt first with one John Shrawley a Broker of london about February last for to helpe him to CC^li for six monthes, who p[ro]mysed this deponent this to helpe to borowe him so muche money, and after at their next meting the said Broker tolde this deponent that he had borowed for him of Mar_h one Marmaduke Spight a m[er]channt twoe hundreth poundes for vj monethes space, and that he must paye for the lone thereof to the said Spight at the said vi monethes ende, the some of CC^li and also to be bounde unto the said M[ar]maduke Spight in a bonde of ___ for the suer the suer payment of the said CC^li at the ende of the said vj monethes, and futher saith that within a daye of ij after he was so bounde, unto the said Spight he and then he recyved his money of the said Shrawley and not of the said Spight

3 Item to the thirde Interr[ogatory] he saith that he nor none for him (to his remembranns) receyved the said some of CC^th in redy money of the said M[ar]maduke Spight named in this Interr[ogatory], but saith that that money which was paide unto him, he receyved in himself of the said Shrawley the Broker which came not in all to the full some of CC^li in redy money, and that the losse which he hath susteyned by that bargaine comes to the some of fyftye pound[es] and more, and ferder saith that he did never agree w[i]th the said M[ar]maduke Spight for any h losse he shuld susteyne or beare for the lone of the said CC^li but only w[i]th the said Shrawley the said Broker with whome he was agreed to lose more then after the rate of x^li in the C, for ___ C^li for a whole yere.

4 Item to the fourth Interr[ogatory] he saith that he was not paide his money at the said brokers handes at the day of the ensealing and delyver upe of his said bonde of L^cli w[hi]ch was made unto the said M[ar]maduke Spight, nor a good while in a day or two after, because that the Broker Shrawley had not solde the wares (as he said unto this deponent) which he had receyved before of the said M[ar]maduke Spight for to make money of, to pay this deponent w[i]th all. and more he can not say

Interogatoryes to be mynestred on her Ma[jes]t[es] behalfe to one William Whitney gent

Inp[ri]mus doo you know one Marmaduke Spight marchunt and how longe have you knowne him

2 Itm Whether have you or eny in your name borowed of the same Marmaduke Speight the sum of two hundred and fyftye poundes or no and yf you did not what sum did you borow of him and what are you to paye for the same for the tyme you borowed hit, and when did you borow the same for how longe, and what sum wer you bownd in to pay the same

3 Itm Whether receved you or eny for you the sum of two hundred and fyfty poundes in rede [ready] mony of the same Marmaduke Speight and yf you did not receve so muche, what what losse are you to sustayne for borowinge the same for the sayde terme and whether was it agreed betwixt you and the said Marmaduke or his factor that you should lose or pay more then after the rate of ten pownd[es] in the for every hundred for one hole yeare and what thing[es] else ____ you say touchyng the borowinge of the sam sum

4 Itm Whether was the money payd to you when you seled the band[es]
