Mary4 Whitney (Mark3, Benjamin2, John1), daughter of (Mark3 and Tabitha (Mellen) Whitney, was born 4 Oct 1731, Hopkinton, MA,[1] and died 5 Dec 1816, Hopkinton, MA, aged 84 years.[2]

She married, 3 Nov 1748, Hopkinton, MA, Joseph Cody, Jr., son of Joseph and Mary (Martin) Cody. An alternate marriage date is 25 Dec 1749, calculated from length of marriage at his death. He was born 2 May 1726, Ipswich, MA, baptized 26 Mar 1727, Ipswich, MA, and died 26 Jan 1818, Hopkinton, MA, aged 98 years.

Pierce says the following:[3]

MARY [WHITNEY], b. Oct 4, 1731; m. 1759, Lieut. Joseph CODY of Hopkinton; res. Milford, Mass. He was son of Isaac and Hannah CODY and was born in Hopkinton, Mass., May 2, 1736. He settled in "Bungay," Milford, Mass., on what is now known as the Partridge place. He was in the French and Indian wars, and the first constable at Milford: was called "Lieut. Joseph;" was a carpenter by trade, and tradition says he seldom used any measuring implement, but laid out his framing work by so accurate an eye that all his joints and mortises fitted exactly when his frames were raised. Ch.: Mary, b. Jan 23, 1760; m. June 6, 1782, Thomas HISCOCK; Martha, b. Sept 7, 1761; Sarah, b. July 7, 1763; m. Nov 16, 1780, Richard HISCOCK: Anna, b. May 12, 1765; m. Nov 13, 1783, James HISCOCK; Hannah, b. Apr 13, 1767; d. in early infancy; Joseph, b. Mar 23, 1769; Hannah, b. Apr 1, 1771.

Obviously this is in error, because a man born in 1736 could not be married in 1748! The information given by Pierce apparently applies to a different man, Joseph Cody, son of Isaac and Hannah (Carryl) Cody, who married, 16 Jan 1758, Grafton, MA, Mary Parmenter. The two Joseph Cody men were first cousins.

Children of Joseph, Jr., and Mary4 (Whitney) Cody, all born Hopkinton, MA:

i. Mary Cody, b. 26 Jun 1749; m. Edward Kibbe.
ii. Sarah Cody, b. 3 Sep 1751; d. before 1756.
iii. Joseph Cody, b. 25 Dec 1753; d. 2 Jun 1754, Hopkinton, MA.
iv. Sarah Cody, b. 7 Dec 1756; m. William Fanning; m. James Lewis.
v. Hannah Cody, b. 11 Jan 1759 or 7 Dec 1759, Hopkinton, MA; m. Jacob Benton.
vi. Tabitha Cody, b. 13 Aug 1763; m. Jonathan Bullock.
vii. Esther Cody, b. 15 Oct 1766; m. Michael Keith.
viii. Elizabeth Cody, b. 7 Sep 1769; m. Jason Hayward.
ix. John Cody, b. 2 Dec 1774; m. Abigail Chamberlain.
